ADAPTING TO CHANGES IN THE MARKET
Established in 1977, Winsert was traditionally a supplier of valve seat inserts for internal combustion engines used in the automotive industry. As this product became commoditized, the company evolved into a leading provider of innovative alloy solutions. This focus on research and development of high-performing metals allowed the company to distinguish itself.
EXPORTS DRIVE OVERALL GROWTH
During the global economic recession of 2008-09, Winsert saw sales decline by almost 67 percent. Recognizing this as an opportunity to become stronger, the company diversified its product portfolio in the global marketplace, and expanded into new markets with the help of tax credits from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. As a result, the percentage of total company sales generated by exporting grew from 47 percent in 2008 to nearly 60 percent today, and Winsert has more than doubled its workforce. The Marinette-based company now employs 185, and received the Governor’s Export Achievement Award in 2014. It envisions further growth in Asia and South America in particular.
