Swedish plastics manufacturer Nolato has announced a $17.9 million expansion to its St. Croix County facility, called Nolato Contour, that will add 62 jobs to its workforce over the next three years. When complete, Nolato Contour’s Baldwin, WI operation will grow by more than 27,000 square feet, including two clean rooms and space for material handling and warehousing. In addition to the expected creation of 62 jobs by the company, an economic modeling study estimates the project could indirectly generate 38 additional jobs in the region. The construction could also directly and indirectly support 76 jobs.
“We have chosen to increase our capacity in Baldwin because of Wisconsin’s positive business climate and great workforce,” said Russ Steele, president and managing director of Nolato Contour. “We are particularly impressed by the work-ready engineering graduates from the University of Wisconsin, primarily UW-Stout, and the skills focus of the local tech colleges — both Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College and Chippewa Valley Technical College.”
Nolato Contour is a precision plastic and silicone injection-molding company that produces and supplies plastic components and finished medical devices to major U.S. medical and pharma companies. Formerly known as Contour Plastics, the company was founded in 1990 before being sold in 2010 to Nolato, a Sweden-based company with facilities in three continents. The Baldwin location, currently housing about 160 employees, is Nolato’s first U.S. facility.
Steele thanked WEDC for its assistance in helping Nolato Contour ramp up its capacity. WEDC is supporting the project by authorizing up to $250,000 in state income tax credits over the next three years. The actual amount of tax credits Nolato Contour will receive is contingent upon the number of jobs created and the amount of capital investment during that period.
“Nolato Contour is a strong corporate partner in Baldwin, in St. Croix County and across west central Wisconsin,” said William Rubin, executive director of the St. Croix Economic Development Corporation. “We are delighted Nolato Contour worked with state and local resources to ensure that this major investment occurred in Baldwin.”
