WEDC Program Recognized for Advancing Industry Development

WEDC received a 2015 Economic Development Award from Business Facilities magazine in the category of Achievement in Site Certification for Certified In Wisconsin®, a program that enhances the state’s appeal to companies not currently located here. WEDC was one of two states honored in the category. It was chosen for successfully providing development-ready certification to sites, and ultimately advancing industrial development.

“It is an honor to be recognized for our Certified In Wisconsin program,” said Tricia Braun, chief operating officer at WEDC. “The manufacturing industry is essential to our economy, and this program is a great tool to assist site selectors in bringing those large manufacturing companies here. It reiterates that Wisconsin truly is open for business.”

Launched in 2012 with 13 sites highlighted throughout the state, Certified In Wisconsin allows communities to obtain certified site designation for properties at a much lower cost than they would pay to pursue the designation on their own through an independent consultant, simply by working with WEDC and its partner for this program, Deloitte Consulting. A Certified In Wisconsin site has the key reviews, documentations and assessments most commonly required for industrial uses based on the typical needs of advanced manufacturing projects.

Each certified site has a unique landing page, which can be found with Locate In Wisconsin tool. This one-stop shop for site selectors is a powerful site analysis tool that combines detailed real estate specifications with in-depth community, demographic and industry data, helping site selectors pinpoint the best locations for their relocation or expansion projects and even prequalify for those locations online.
