Reed Street Yards Expands Global Water Hub

Once a rail yard and truck terminal, the Reed Street Yards area in downtown Milwaukee is rapidly evolving into an all-in-one location for the city’s global water technology hub. Located adjacent to The Water Council’s Global Water Center, Reed Street Yards will transform the existing 17-acre lot into more than 1 million square feet of mixed-use office, educational, research and technology tenants.

“Reed Street Yards will complement the outstanding work already taking place at the Global Water Center and will further solidify the positions of Milwaukee and Wisconsin as world leaders,” said Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. “The state is proud to play a very key role in moving this project forward.”

The redevelopment and creation of the resulting “Global Water Technology Park” has already attracted the attention of companies looking to relocate to the research hub, including the Rexnord Corporation. The area also will become a showcase for sustainable infrastructure and site design, with its premiere building, Water Tech One, earning a LEED Platinum certification, as well as the implementation of several green roofs, porous paving areas and more. The economic impacts of the redevelopment project, and Milwaukee’s water cluster as a whole, are fully laid out in the newly released Water Technology District Economic Investment Analysis.
