Changing the Way Orthopedic Care is Delivered
Dr. Joe Kohli founded [m]pirik in 2010 after noticing shortcomings in the way his field of orthopedic medicine was being practiced. He set out to change the way care in the field is delivered, enhance the patient experience and improve patient outcomes. Originally named Medical Companion, the Milwaukee-based company has pioneered methods of improving patients’ experiences and outcomes using software to simplify patient data collection and analysis for doctors in orthopedic clinics.
Leveraging Data to Improve the Patient Experience
As the health care reimbursement landscape changes, mandates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, combined with a move from a fee-for-service to a value-based payment model, are encouraging hospital systems and physicians to measure their outcomes using patient-reported outcomes and registry data. [m]pirik’s system is the most comprehensive product on the market, and gives a complete picture of a patient’s return to everyday life. Kohli believes measuring value and patient outcomes is only going to become more important as time goes on. The Milwaukee-based company is setting its sights on capturing the large market for its products in the Midwest and nationally.
