The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO) Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation recently received generous funding support to maintain operations from Alta Resources. In recognition of this donation, the Center, housed within the UWO College of Business’ Small Business Development Center, was renamed the Alta Resources Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Started by Jim Beré in 1995, Neenah-based Alta Resources is a leading provider of integrated business-process outsourcing for global companies in various industries, such as consumer-packaged goods, entertainment and health care. As a successful Wisconsin entrepreneur, Beré felt that the partnership was a natural fit and wanted to give back to the community by sharing his passion and expertise with students.

Beyond the financial contribution, Alta Resources also will provide mentorship and networking opportunities for UWO students. A goal of this Alta Resources partnership is to break down the age boundaries that often prevent young entrepreneurs from achieving their goals due to a lack of support from an established network. Students in the program will have additional resources and connections to help them launch and develop their business ideas.

The Alta Resources Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation develops entrepreneurial leaders through education, mentorship, research and applied preparation.  A seed accelerator program has been implemented to encourage more UWO startups. The business model competition will give students the opportunity to pitch their business ideas in front of an esteemed panel of judges and the chance to receive initial funding.

WEDC additionally provided a $97,000 grant to the Alta Resources Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The Oshkosh community and UWO are committed to the success of its young entrepreneurs. Many Wisconsin companies, like Alta Resources, have given donations to advance the Center and inspire students to develop their business concepts into viable startups in the Oshkosh area.
