Wisconsin’s celebrated manufacturing leadership, proven history of innovation and unmatched talent pool all received validation this week with Foxconn’s announcement of a $10 billion liquid crystal display (LCD) manufacturing facility to be built in our state over the next four to six years.
“Wisconn Valley,” as Governor Walker has dubbed the expansive development, represents the largest corporate attraction project in U.S. history as measured by jobs.
How many jobs? The construction of Foxconn’s Wisconsin facility alone will support 10,000 construction jobs in each of the next four years and 6,000 indirect jobs. When fully operational, Foxconn itself will employ 13,000 highly skilled workers in Wisconsin with an average salary of nearly $54,000.
But that’s not all. Foxconn will create new opportunities for current Wisconsin suppliers while also attracting new businesses and talent to the state. It is projected that Foxconn will create an additional 22,000 indirect and induced jobs throughout Wisconsin. So, while the company is eyeing property in southeast Wisconsin, its positive impact on Wisconsin’s manufacturing ecosystem will reach all four corners of the state
Attracting Foxconn to Wisconsin required a coordinated effort, one which drew upon our state’s responsive and collaborative economic development network.
