For more than 25 years, the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) has offered business loans, business education and technical assistance to Wisconsin residents who have a difficult time receiving financing from a traditional source.

WWBIC serves mostly women and people of color; however, men make up a quarter of cliental. Since 1987, the non-profit corporation has helped finance 2,500 businesses. These entrepreneurs have created and retained 8,000 jobs. In 2013 alone, WWBIC clients created or retained 1,800 jobs total.

With offices in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha and Madison, WWBIC helps entrepreneurs gain access to microloans. WWBIC loans range from $1,000 to $100,000 for one to six years. Among other eligibility requirements, applicants must submit completed business plans along with a 12-month cash flow and three-year profit/loss projections.

The organization recently expanded its presence in the state, adding a part-time staff member in southwestern and northern Wisconsin. WWBIC looks to continue to expand to other areas of the state to increase awareness and help more Wisconsin residents get on the entrepreneurship path.
